RECONSTRUCTIon US
This UX project was designed for the K-12 secondary education system, Reconstruction, with the goal to inspire Black students to achieve academic success by learning from historical Black figures in their disciplines and how their respective influences affected Black culture.
This project was conducted in an educational 6 week design sprint with two other students.
Reconstruction’s platform needed to be engaging for K-12th grade students, with a specific focus on the 6th grade.
Initial research looked at competing secondary education companies, their branding tactics, and how their reward systems functioned as tools to incentivize after school participation.
Iterated designs and preexisting interfaces were annotated over with notes on what could be improved, as well as how to bring in engaging growth visuals for various ages. These research findings and observations were the basis for the user experience recommendations later built into the product.
The Process
KYC Precheck
KYC stands for “Know Your Customer” and its term is used to reflect the process financial institutions use to verify an individual or business’s legitmacy during onboarding, either at creation of a new bank account or during refresh of existing ones.
The team was tasked with defining how to optimize the KYC space to enhance customer expectations of the banking experience while ensuring banks maintain regulatory compliance.
THE PROCESS
To start with understanding this problem, our team interviewed various consultants working or with experience in “Know Your Customer” (KYC) processes.
We created many iterations of KYC workflows to understand where the difficulties stemmed from.
To summarize our goal for this project, we defined the following problem statement:
How Might We: streamline and standardize the KYC onboarding process at banks
For: high risk entities
That: face delays, repetitive document requests, and inconsistent compliance standards

Jade Lab LLC is a sustainability consulting company that reenvisions the process of design by challenging organizations to incorporate different modalities of thought and data driven analysis into their product or service development.
Jade Lab LLC wanted a rebrand of its style guide and marketing materials, as well as the foundations to a social media advertising campaign. This work is performed by Maggie Salomonsky and Marshal Turner.
